I was talking to Masongay today and I accidentally said something really cliche, which he called me on (this is ironic because Mason is well known for his ability to induce groans and eye rolls from his audience).

I said, “I attribute my successes to my failures.” Although I pluralize successes, there aren’t a lot of them. However, when I was younger, I failed a lot of things. I started and failed three companies. Almost got into trouble with one. Was mildly successful with a summer freelance project, but was later robbed of my work (and a hundred dollars, that bitch). Dozens and dozens of no call backs from interviews, business proposals, and freelance projects.

But as people watched, they would always say, “at least it was good experience.”

And to be honest, I didn’t think much of it; that’s what everyone said. But seven years later, the notches on my belt have really started to add up.

I just hope they’re going to be enough this time.

It looks like I might be taking that break after all. Things are in talks.
